General Information:
In an effort to measure student progress during this time of remote instruction, Cumberland County School teachers will be asking students in grades 3-8 Mathematics and grades 4-8 in English Language Arts to complete a benchmark assessment. The benchmark will be given during a school-designated window of time from November 9, 2020, through November 24, 2020.
Purpose:
The purpose of these assessments is to provide teachers and school staff with information regarding student mastery of standards taught in the first 11 weeks of the 2020-2021 school year. The assessment items are hidden from both teachers and students prior to and following the test administration. Teachers will, however, have access to individual student data summarizing their performance and that data will be used by teachers to plan for instruction following the assessment. The student assessment score will not be calculated in PowerSchool reporting. These assessments are used solely for the purpose of informing instruction.
Best Practices for Student Testing at Home:

In an effort to best prepare your child for optimal performance on each assessment, please consider the following:
Students should be provided with a quiet place to work.
Students should have access to the appropriate tools for testing which may include blank paper and pencil.
Students should complete each assessment with no assistance from websites, search engines, other resources, or other individuals in the home.
Students should be reminded to do their best as well as the purpose of the assessments. Remember assessment scores will not be calculated in PowerSchool reporting. Students should do their best and answer every question.
Testing Dates and Codes:
Your child’s teacher will provide specific information regarding testing dates, login procedures, testing codes, and other pertinent information for your child’s test. Please direct any specific questions to your child’s teacher.
